2010-03-09 30th Anniversary at Wacken 2010
When Grave Digger was founded in Gladbeck in 1980 nobody knew how defining this band would become for the international heavy metal scene. 30 years later a band would play at Wacken that never forgot its references: its heavy metal fans. This is one of the most important reasons this band overcame 30 years of music history.
In 1996 GRAVE DIGGER published their 7th album called “TUNES OF WAR”, themed on the history of Scotland and the fights between the Celtics and the Englishmen up to the Jacobin insurgencies in the 18th century. The album is the first conceptual album of Grave Digger’s Middle Age Trilogy that also contains “Knights Of The Cross” and “Excalibur”.
The album hit #84 in the German charts. Music videos of “Rebellion” and “The Dark Of The Sun” were shot. The Scottish Cavanaugh-Clan appointed the band to be honorary members due to “Tunes Of War”.
“Tunes Of War” was the most successful album of the band so far. For this reason Grave Digger will play the whole album live. To improve the visual effects the band invited some illustrious guests with the 20-headed Baul Muluy Pipes & Drums Band from Hamburg leading the way. The legendary metal queen DORO PESCH, BLING GUARDIAN lead singer HANSI KÜRSCH and also the metal a capella ensemble VAN CANTO, which recently enhanced the hit “Rebellion” will support Grave Digger on this great show, too. Further guests are in the works. There will be a special elaborate and ingenious stage draft with an extraordinary pyro show.
This will be the first and final time Grave Digger will play the whole “Tunes Of War” album live. Of course the band will also present you their greatest hits such as “Ballad Of A Hangman”, “Heavy Metal Breakdown” or “Excalibur” at the end of their big show.
2010-02-17 NEW SONGS AND LYRICS
Hello Fans
we're still working on the new songs. Four well arranged ideas are already finished. While Chris is filing the lyrics of the songs, Axel is working on the arrangements of the solos. Along the way, we're working on the 30-Years-Anniversary-Wacken-Show concept, which will be an extraordinary event for sure. Stay tuned and keep an eye on the upcoming press release.

2010-02-02 SONGWRITING
Hi everybody,
last weekend, we've been at the TLC studio, Cologne /Pulheim to put down the first song ideas of the upcoming album. Holy shit, what a blast! Although we only got the first compositions on the list, you can imagine the direction of the songs. Let's call it TYPICAL GRAVE DIGGER!
Once again you'll get the full monty, but spiced with some tiny little finesse. After all that stress within the last year, finally we had the chance to leave the ballast behind and rock it off our chest. Axel and Jens put down some awesome riff ideas, which will be hammered to real hot steel within the next 3 months.
At the middle of May, we'll be at the Principal studio once again, let the Resetti Brothers (never change a winning team) produce the new album.
All you fans out there will get what you want us to do and for what you loved and kept faith with us.

Hello Grave Digger Fans,
"An eventful year 2009 lies behind us. It started with the release of the 'Ballads Of A Hangman' album together with the successful European tour. Then the split with Thilo [Herrmann, guitar]... Another successful trip to Russia. The festival season in summer with the Rock Harz festival and the Wacken Rocks South. Our first shows in Mexico and then finally Manni [Schmidt, guitar] leaving the band, that was a real big shock to us all.
"We had already booked some concerts [before] the end of the year and we didn't want to cancel them. So we decided to play the shows with a substitute guitarist.
"An old friend stepped in: Axel Ritt [DOMAIN]. So we had the chance to finish the year in a peaceful way with these concerts.
"We are glad to announce Axel as the new guitar player of GRAVE DIGGER. His playing and his behaviour on and off stage totally convinced us that he is the right man for the job.
"We are already in the middle of the songwriting for the new album. In May we will enter the Principal Studios again to record the new material."
